PRODUCERS/SUPPLIERS GUIDE
Durban Fresh Produce Market functions as a commission market and welcomes all fresh produce farmers/suppliers to market their produce through one or more of our five market agents. Market agents sell produce on behalf of farmers and suppliers and receive a mutually negotiated commission.
Commission Market System
As with all national bulk fresh produce markets, Durban Market operate essentially on a commission-based system where the market’s agents and the market (eThekwini Municipality) receive a commission from producers for their services offered.
Market Agents who are appointed by the Head of Markets, are allocated floor space on the market to sell produce on behalf of the producers/suppliers.
Produce consigned to a market agent remains the property of the producer/supplier until it is sold. Once sold, ownership is transferred from producer to buyer.
Market Agents receive a pre-determined commission which is negotiated between the market agent and producer/supplier, for services rendered.
Durban Fresh Produce Market receives a fixed commission of 5% on sales.
