Water supply interruptions in the city due to high demand and intense heatwave

The Municipality is aware of the interruption of water supply to areas supplied by the Durban Heights, Wiggins, Hazelmere, Amanzimtoti, and Midmar Systems.

Our systems are under strain due to high consumption, exacerbated by the ongoing heatwave.

The average water consumption in eThekwini remains very high at 298 litres per capita (person) per day (l/c/d) compared to the international average of 173 l/c/d.

Residents are requested to use water sparingly to help build sufficient water levels at the critical points in all affected systems.

Water tankers have been dispatched to supply affected communities.

The Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused.

For more information regarding water supply, members of the public can download the eThekwini Municipality’s Mobile App to log faults or send a WhatsApp message to 073 1483 477. Alternatively, they can call the toll-free number on 080 311 1111 or email Eservices@durban.gov.za
