THE City recently leased a beachfront property to the first African tenant, demonstrating its commitment to both transformation and inclusive economic development. Head of the Real Estate Department Thapelo Mmusimane said: “The redevelopment is part of the City’s proactive Land Release Strategy which aims to alienate surplus land and assist the City in achieving its developmental objectives, stimulate economic activity and black economic empowerment, as well as promote transformation in the property sector.” Brothers Senzo and Andile Shangase recently opened the North Beach Lifestyle Restaurant located at the Country Club Beach.
They have leased the property for a period of 10 years. Operating a restaurant of this nature is a first-time opportunity for them. Senzo Shangase said this is the beginning of a journey that celebrates entrepreneurship, community and the vibrant culture of Durban. “It’s about embracing a vision that integrates high- quality food, entertainment, social connection and lifestyle right here on our beloved beachfront.” He added: “We celebrate the spirit of collaboration and community upliftment by creating new job opportunities, supporting local suppliers and providing a platform for local talent to shine. We want North Beach Lifestyle to be a hub of activity, bringing the people of Durban together, and enhancing the tourism landscape of our City.” North Beach LifeStyle offers a variety of meals, smoothies, coffee, and shisanyama and is fully licensed. They are open from 5.30am to 5pm on weekdays, and close at 10pm on the weekends.
