EThekwini Municipality boosts sanitation in rural Ward 103
To improve sanitation in Ward 103, 500 alternative toliets are being built. Councillor Linda Mchunu said the project will cost R17 million.
ETHEKWINI Municipality is making significant strides to improve sanitation in rural areas, with the construction of 500 alternative toilets underway in Ward 103. This initiative, spearheaded by Councillor Linda Mchunu, aims to address the lack of proper sanitation facilities in the area and enhance the quality of life of residents. Councillor Mchunu said the project, with a total cost of R17 million, has also created employment opportunities for the community. Eleven local companies have been contracted for the construction, providing jobs for 110 people. “Access to proper sanitation is a basic human right, and we are committed to ensuring that all residents of Ward 103 have access to these essential facilities.
These toilets will significantly improve hygiene and sanitation in the community, contributing to a healthier and more dignified living environment for everyone,” said Councillor Mchunu. He added that the project’s positive impact on the local economy through job creation is a testament to the Municipality’s commitment to empowering communities. “Th e construction of these toilets is expected to be completed within the next few months, bringing much-needed relief to the residents of Ward 103. Th is project highlights eTh ekwini Municipality’s dedication to improving the lives of all residents, particularly those in rural areas,” concluded Councillor Mchunu.
