The City’s new grass cutting cycle has started across eThekwini. A cycle lasts for five weeks depending on weather conditions.
THE CITY’S Parks, Recreation and Culture (PRC) Unit has implemented its new grass cutting programme from 2 September in all eThekwini areas. A cycle lasts an average of five weeks and is dependent on conducive weather conditions. The grass cutting programme aims to promote a clean and wellmaintained City. Verge cutting in residential areas is done according to a pre-set schedule.
The grass cutting programme cannot be implemented when it rains, which then prolongs the cycle. Chairperson of the Community Services Committee Councillor Zama Sokhabase said the Municipality is working hard to address the issue of overgrown grass in communities. “The fiveweek cycle that has just commenced is one of eight cycles that will be implemented until next year July,” she said. She said grass cutting and verge maintenance is important to keep residential areas clean.
The Municipality is committed to providing effective and efficient service delivery to the public. Over the past few months, the Municipality bought 265 equipment units to assist the PRC Unit to render services to the public. The equipment includes items for grass cutting, tree maintenance, beach operations, and workshop operations. For more information on the grass cutting cycle, call 031 322 4000.
