R24 million library to improve lives of Amaoti residents
The recently completed R24 million library in Amaoti.
CONSTRUCTION of a new state-of-the-art library in Amaoti has been completed and is anticipated to open soon.

The R24 million library is equipped with modern technology, a computer lab, study rooms and has the capacity to accommodate over 120 patrons.

Elegant furniture comprises of tables, chairs and shelves that will stock an array of more than 50 000 books. Head of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit Thembinkosi Ngcobo said: “The library is built in a poor community and will go a long way in transforming the lives of young people.” The library is divided into three sections; adult, teenagers work area and a games area.

The facility also features an outdoor gymnasium, garden, open space for socialisation and car parking bays. “Even if the library is closed, people can still access free WIFI and meet in the open space fitted with benches,” said Ngcobo. Ongoing power outages will not affect operations as the library is fitted with a huge generator. Additionally, during the construction phase more than 130 jobs were created.
